Good Health, Good Work - Vocational Rehabilitation; Community of Practice

Following work between NHS Education for Scotland (NES) and the STUC a community of practice has now been set up called “Good Work, Good Health – Vocational Rehabilitation”. This has been designed to allow all those interested in vocational rehabilitation, health professionals, trade unions and other interested parties to share ideas and experiences on vocational rehabilitation but also to learn from each others expertise.

There is a lot of enthusiasm from Allied Health Professionals on the potential to use this as a vehicle for improved communication between AHP’s , trade union members and health and safety activists.

The site has different groups within the community including ones for Mental Health, MSDs and Cancer in addition to one for trade unions.

Scottish Hazards supports any initiative that provides the opportunity for sharing knowledege and raising awareness of the importance of developing first class reahabilitation services in Scotland.

By participating in this community Hazards members can help to develop our policy on the  shape of rehabilitation service in Scotland but also to provide links between ourselves, trade unions, academics and the wider health and safety community.

The first discussion has been launched

"An STUC/Scottish Government  survey showed that out of 86 large trade unionised workplaces less than half provided vocational reahabilitation. Does this reflect a lack of employer understanding of the importance of effective rehabilitation and  and having trade unions involved in that process?"
