International Workers Memorial Day

With Scotland facing huge cuts in UK, national and local government budgets, and with the implications of recession and conflict on worker health and safety throughout the world, International Workers Memorial Day, 28 April, seems more important than ever.  Please let us know of any IWMD activities that will be taking place using the form on the contact page..

2011 Events Midlothian Trades Union Council will hold their annual commemoration of International Workers Memorial Day on Thursday 28th April. The simple ceremony will take  place at the memorial flowerbed in George V Park, Bonnyrigg  and commences at 12.30.p.m. The address this year will be given by Mick Hogg, Regional Organiser for the RMT, the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers. The Trades Union Council welcomes everyone to attend but if cannot please hold a minutes silence at your workplace.

West Lothian will host a Seminar and Ceremony on the 28th ,the IWMD Seminar will take place 10am till 12noon. Seminar keynote speakers: Prof.Andrew Waterson, Stirling University and Patrick McGuire, Thompsons Solicitors. The West Lothian Memorial service will take place 12.30pm to 1pm with contributions from

  • Representative STUC
  • Jim Swan Scottish Hazards Campaign

 

Ceremony will be conducted by Father Basil Clark and Reverend Murdo MacDonald Piper Grant Walker
